چکیده

The spectroscopic characteristics for a single-molecule in the vicinity of a metallic structure are studied as a function of the substrate temperature via a phenomenological model. Emphasis is put on the role of the surface plasmon excitation of the structure and its variation with the change of temperature. From the emission characteristics such as the decay rates and frequency-shifts of the molecule, it is concluded that such effects should be accounted for in certain recent experiments in single-molecule imaging using metallic tips. In addition, from the photoabsorption line-shape of the molecule, it is speculated that certain surface-enhanced photochemical reactions under realistic catalytic conditions may indeed be feasible, provided that other complications to the surface processes can be put under control during the variation of the substrate temperature. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF THIN Cu FILMS AS A FUNCTION OF SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURE

Copper films (250 nm) deposited on glass substrates, at different substrate temperatures. Their optical properties were measured by ellipsometery (single wavelength of 589.3 nm) and spectrophotometery in the spectral range of 200–2600 nm. Kramers Kronig method was used for the analysis of the reflectivity curves of Cu films to obtain the optical constants of the films, while ellipsometery measu...

Ground-State Depletion Microscopy: Detection Sensitivity of Single-Molecule Optical Absorption at Room Temperature

Optical studies of single molecules in ambient environments, which have led to broad applications, are primarily based on fluorescence detection. Direct detection of optical absorption with single-molecule sensitivity at room temperature is difficult because absorption is not a background-freemeasurement and is often complicated by sample scattering. Here we report ground-state depletionmicrosc...

Improving the Erosion Behavior of Inconel 625 Substrate by PTA-Deposited Stellite6/B4C Composite Cladding

The purpose of this study was to improve the erosion behavior of Inconel 625 alloy by plasma transferred arc-deposited stellite6/B4C composite cladding. For this purpose, 5 wt.% of boron carbide was added to the stellite6 clad. Phase analysis and microstructure evaluation were conducted by Optical Microscope, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), and Energy-dispersive Spectroscop...

Scanning near-field optical coherent spectroscopy of single molecules at 1.4 K.

We present scanning near-field extinction spectra of single molecules embedded in a solid matrix. By varying the tip-molecule separation, we modify the line shape of the spectra, demonstrating the coherent nature of the interaction between the incident laser light and the excited state of the molecule. We compare the measured data with the outcome of numerical calculations and find a very good ...
